I was born in Vancouver in June of 1957. Within days, my birth parents gave me up for adoption. That was the luckiest day of my life. I was adopted by 2 of the greatest people in the world. I have enjoyed 56 years (so far) knowing only them as my parents. That said I wish my birth parents no ill will.
My Dad was in the Royal Canadian Air Force, with the rank of Flight Lieutenant, serving in the Air Crew. My Dad's flying career runs from learning to fly in a Tiger Moth, to skimming the clouds in twin engine jets. Much of his time in aircraft was spent in the back seat as an instructor. I guess I come by my bent for teaching honestly!
Being an Air Force brat, we moved. A lot! Sometimes a lot in the same year. In third grade, I attended 3 (maybe 4) schools in 3 cities and two different provinces!
Most of the way through grade school, I landed in my second grade 6 class at Johnson Street Public School. A great school with some great teachers. Every day it was home for lunch, watch The Flintstones, then torque it to school for the 1:10 afternoon bell! It was here that I met my best friend in the world, Dean Stauffert. Pilot, motorcycle rider, the other half of my skiing figure eights! We have shared so many adventures together, one website would not do them justice (more on that later!).
About this time I also met Gary Haughton. Gary was one of 6 brothers, all Austin Mini afficianados. Not the new Mini Coopers mind you, the real AUSTIN MINI's! One litre engines and smaller than they are today. We spent many good times begging for rides and squeezing into the back of Jack's hot rodded Mini squirting around town and racing against snowmobiles out on the bay. It was such fun to pass snowmobiles and wave at them wearing short sleeve shirts! Gary got me into minibikes and from there to REAL motorcycles. A succession of motorcycles followed to today when I am on number 16 or 18, a race prepared CB350.
Round about 1980 I started working at a company called Micom, a fledgling word processing company , and this was "How I Met Your Mother"! One thing led to another, marriage, house, and two great kids, David born in 1985 and Cameron born in 1988, both in April. July was a busy month around our house I guess! (do the math...)
To be continued!
